The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has decided to introduce a central IT system for all its offices, warehouses, and retail outlets by June 2021. The objective of this step is to minimize the challenges that the cash-and-carry and other megastores in Pakistan face while maintaining accurate data logs of inventories.

A report has been prepared by the USC which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP). The report explains how automation will help in identifying the trends in the chart-topping items and locations. This will allow stocks to be moved with precision and achieve higher sales volumes.

The USC has already set up the required Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and a state-of-the-art data center with Private Cloud at its head office.

Due to loopholes in its purchase distribution and sales management, the USC is facing competition from private cash-and-carry stores across Pakistan.

The state-owned retail company’s management established the integrated data center for Rs. 5 million, and will hire a consultant this month to link and automate the 4,881 retail stores and 124 warehouses.

It is expected that all the USC business processes will be automated by June 2021.

While responding to a query, the USC Managing Director, Umer Lodhi, explained, “The whole inventory will be controllable, and the USC will be able to predict the number of items needed, thus preventing both shortages and overstocking of products”.

He added that once the whole system is automated, it will synchronize the data from warehouses and retail outlets into a centralized data center that will provide an amalgamated view of the corporation’s performance.
