In conversation with the media, Mani said that Wasim, as a CEO of the board, could exert influence over committee decisions.
Therefore, we mutually decided that he will step down as the head, but retain the membership of the committee. We will soon appoint an independent chairman.
Mani reflected that the idea was to have a ‘completely independent’ committee comprising of domestic and international cricketers, who could give insightful advice, critical analysis and have access to all levels of cricket – domestic or international.
They can speak to the captain, the coach, challenge our senior officials — even Wasim, discuss the wickets, the pitches, the grounds.

Since Wasim was accountable too, it was inappropriate for him to run the committee, he explained.
In another development, Mudassar Nazar, the director academies, has announced to part ways with the board when his contract expires next year.
Nazar was appointed on May 31st in 2016 on a three-year contract, which was extended by another year. In a statement on Sunday, Nazar said he wanted to spend time with his family in the UK and explore new opportunities.
