The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has named 100 proclaimed offenders, wanted in human trafficking crimes, in its 2019’s ‘Red Book.’ The list also includes five women among the wanted criminals.

Out of 100, 43 offenders are from Punjab, 31 from Islamabad, 12 from Sindh and two from Balochistan.

According to FIA, last year’s list had declared 93 human smugglers as most wanted, and 19 were arrested.

A recent seminar on this issue highlighted that a large number of trafficking victims were girls and women. Statistics from a Global Times report indicated that up to 80 percent of people trafficked globally were women and girls and 60 percent were from Asia.

Speaking at the forum, an FIA official said that the women were not only trafficked from poverty-stricken areas of Southern Punjab and Balochistan, but also major cities such as Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad.

He reflected that some young Pakistani women were also trafficked to China on the pretext of marriage.
