2020 has been one freaky year for every individual on the planet. In light of that, the video-sharing platform YouTube has announced that it will not upload a YouTube Rewind video for the year. This makes complete sense since most of us don’t want to relive the year, even if it is for a few minutes. However, this comes as a shock as the year-end video has been a tradition since 2010.
For those who don’t know, YouTube Rewind is a video compiled by Google commemorating the year’s most prominent trends and viral videos.
This news was recently announced by YouTube’s official Twitter account. According to the post, the platform will not upload a rewind video in light of the year we have been having.

The tweet says,
2020 has been different, and it doesn’t feel right to carry on as if it weren’t. So, we’re taking a break from Rewind this year.
In the post, YouTube did say that the year was not entirely negative. It thanked its community of content creators for striving on and posting entertaining videos for everyone stuck in the house with cabin fever.
We know that so much of the good that did happen in 2020 was created by all of you. You’ve found ways to lift people up, help them cope, and make them laugh. You made a hard year genuinely better. Thank you for making a difference.
Who would blame YouTube for not wanting to rewind the year? From pandemic to lockdowns to trade show cancellations, 2020 has been pretty challenging.
