Former goalkeeper of Pakistan’s national hockey team, Zakir Hussain, has passed away at the age of 85 on Monday. The Olympian’s funeral will be held today in his hometown of Wah Cantt.
Born in Lahore in 1934, he went on to represent Pakistan at the biggest stage and won accolades for his brilliant goalkeeping skills.
Former hockey players and the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) officials have expressed their condolences on Olympic Gold medalist’s death.
Zakir won a Silver medal at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and a Gold while representing his country at the Mexico Olympics in 1968. Secretary PHF, Asif Bajwa prayed for the departed soul and PHF President, Brigadier Khalid Sajjad Khokhar prayed for his forgiveness and courage for the deceased’s family.
