The government is thinking about outsourcing the country’s airport management system to improve international terminals that remain deserted because of poor facilities.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked for a briefing from the Aviation Division on outsourcing the system. According to the officials, the miserable condition of airports, especially international terminals, is a major problem. These airports give a deserted look and are way behind international airports.

The government has decided to work on a comprehensive policy to improve international terminals at airports, taking all the stakeholders and technical experts on board . Outsourcing will improve the facilities in international terminals, which is necessary to promote tourism, investment, and the overall image of the country.

The government is also considering separating the regulatory structure for the aviation industry, management, and landing functions under the new aviation policy. A report will be submitted to the premier in this regard within a month.

Aviation Division spokesperson Abdul Sattar Khokhar said that they plan to outsource the system while keeping the operational and regulatory control with the government. He said that the airport’s maintenance, parking, and passenger services will be outsourced.

The Aviation Division will perform the codal formalities for the separation of regulatory functions of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) from estate and airport management. It will present a compliance report to the prime minister within a month.

The government has also formulated a new aviation policy draft following a request from the national airline.
