The Ministry for Education and Professional Training has released the first phase of the Single National Curriculum (SNC) which will be enforced across the country, starting next year.
According to the document, SNC will be introduced in a phased manner. In the first phase, a uniform syllabus will be introduced for classes one to five by March next year, for class 6 to 8 in March 2022 and for class 9 to 12 in 2023.
According to the Federal Minister for Education, Shafqat Mahmood, SNC for grade 1 to 5 has been uploaded on the ministry’s website and can be downloaded from here.
Mahmood said that the curriculum has been prepared after an unprecedented consultative process with every stakeholder. He noted that any feedback and suggestions will be welcomed.

According to the official website, the new curriculum is designed to promote equal chances of high-quality education for all children regardless of their social and financial status.
One system of Education for all, in terms of curriculum, medium of instruction and a common platform of assessment so that all children have a fair and equal opportunity to receive high quality education. Single National Curriculum is a step in that direction.
The SNC has been designed to be a standard and outcome-based curriculum in contrast to the 2006 curriculum which lacked these qualities.

The 2006 policy had integrated the subject of Islamiat with General Knowledge up to grade 2 and was taught as a separate subject from Grade 3 onwards. In comparison, the SNC introduces Islamiat from grade 1 as a separate subject up to grade 12.
In contrast with the previous curriculum, the SNC has replaced Ethics with a new subject ‘Religious Education ’from grade 1 onwards for five minority groups of Pakistan.
Furthermore, the content of the SNC for Maths and Science has been aligned to the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) content framework.
The new curriculum will be implemented across the board in all schools of Pakistan including public and private sectors as well as madrassas.
