The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has indicated that it is planning to bring back students from remote areas, that have no internet facility, to their hostels to attend online classes.

Chairman HEC, Tariq Banuri, said that the education commission has sought special permission from the federal government in this regard. If allowed, the higher education commission will facilitate a small number of students from remote areas to return to their university hostels and continue their studies under strict safety protocols.

He also maintained that the growing demands from students regarding a complete fee waiver are not legit, adding that varsities could reduce insignificant charges from the fees to make them more affordable but a complete waiver is not possible.

For fees to be waived off, he said, the federal government will have to increase HEC’s annual budget.
