The Honor 20 Pro is the company’s latest offering that falls under the Affordable Flagship category in the smartphone market. The device packs top of the line specs like the ones found in Huawei’s current flagship, the P30 Pro, but this one won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
The device is making a buzz and is also being coined as a “beast” among the smartphone enthusiasts due to its beefy spec sheet, as it packs a Kirin 980 chipset, 6.26” IPS display (with a punch-hole camera), a quad-camera setup on the back, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of non-expandable UFS 2.1 storage.
We’ve unboxed the device and our first impressions for it are quite positive. You can watch our unboxing video right here:
The Honor 20 Pro comes in standard Honor packaging that includes a 22.5W SuperCharger from Huawei, a USB-C cable, a silicone protective case, a SIM ejection tool, and a quick start guide. The thing to note here is that the Honor 20 Pro does not come with any earphones out of the box, instead, the Honor provides you with a 3.5mm to USB-C dongle.
Honor 20 Pro takes quite a practical and straight forward approach in terms of design. The front of the phone is almost entirely screen because of the small bezels and the punch-hole selfie camera, which makes the device look futuristic. The punch hole is only 4.5 mm in diameter and kind of disappears once you start to get familiar with the device.
The back of the device is curved and has this beautiful looking holographic effect that visually adds depth in the color. Speaking of colors, the Honor 20 Pro comes in 2 colors: Phantom Black and Phantom Blue, the latter of which is our review unit.
The Phone comes with USB-C port as expected, which is located on the bottom of the device along with the speaker grill. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the side of the device, as opposed to the back. The nano dual-sim slot is on the left side of the device.
Probably the best thing about the design of the Honor 20 Pro is how ergonomic it is, the phone feels small and comfortable in the hand, even with its sizable 6.26″ display.
Honor 20 Pro packs some serious horsepower under the hood as it shares the same chipset (Kirin 980) from Huawei’s current flagship the P30 Pro. This processor is paired up with Mali-G76 MP10 GPU and 8GB of RAM and you get a solid recipe for a device that can handle anything you throw at it.
The Honor 20 Pro comes with a 32MP f/2.0 front selfie camera that resides in a punch-hole in the top left corner of the display, which makes the phone look different from devices that sport a regular notch and adds to its overall appeal.
The Quad-Camera setup on the back comes with a 48MP Primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.4 followed by an 8MP telephoto f/2.4, a 16MP f/2.2 ultrawide, and a 2 MP f/2.4 dedicated macro camera. The primary and telephoto sensors are backed up with Laser AutoFocus and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for faster focusing speed and stable footage.
Backing all of these features is a 4000 mAh battery, which is the standard these days. Honor 20 Pro also supports fast charging and it comes with a 22.5W SuperCharger from Huawei. This means you can charge 50 percent of the device in just 30 minutes. There is no wireless charging on the Honor 20 Pro which is kind of a bummer.
As always, we’ll go into more detail in the full review. Until then, stay tuned for more on Honor 20 Pro.
