Huawei’s Android replacement, Hongmeng OS, is going to be revealed this week.

A report from Chinese media claims that Huawei’s many named OS (Hongmeng, ARK, Oak, etc.) could be revealed this week on the company’s developer conference taking place on August 9.

The OS has allegedly been in development since 2012 but only recently started receiving hype as tensions were rising due to the US ban on Huawei.

The report says that HongMengOS is designed to work with a variety of form factors, indicating that the company plans to go all out on releasing the OS for smartphones, tablets and maybe even notebooks.

It is said that the new OS is based on a special microkernel so it can “better accommodate artificial intelligence and can run on multiple platforms.”

The company’s executives claim that the software is mainly designed for IoT devices, and will be arriving on Smart TVs first.

The Chinese report also says that a HongMeng OS smartphone is in the works and is already being tested. It will target the mid-range segment with a starting price of $288. Rumor has it that the device will debut alongside the Huawei Mate 30 Pro later this year with a release date somewhere in the fourth quarter.
