Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s (SNGPL) new policy for the provision of gas connections will keep consumers waiting for four years instead of three to get a gas connection.

The backlog of the gas supplying company is rising rapidly as the number of pending applications for domestic consumers has now crossed the 2.5 million mark in the Lahore region only.

As per media reports, the SNGPL is currently issuing demand notices on the applications received in June 2017.

Under the new policy, the consumers applying for a gas connection in 2021 will get it in 2025.

The company is currently not issuing demand notices to new users, even under the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s (OGRA) fast-track policy introduced in 2014.

The policy requires a customer to pay additional charges, besides the connection fee, to get a connection on an urgent basis.
