Pakistan’s daily new coronavirus cases are now hovering around 3,000 mark on daily basis for quite some time. While its lower than the peak of around 6800 cases, we are still at the brink of edge where things can go either way.
Our seven day rolling average also dropped from 3,500 (during last week) to around 3,291 (today), the rate of decline in new cases is lower than many other countries. While this is all good, and we are seeing figures lowering — the pace is bit steady and we need to be very careful during this dip.
Pakistan yesterday added 3,359 new cases with Sindh registering almost half or 1,736 new cases in a single day. Punjab added 988 new cases while KP, Islamabad and Balochistan added 371, 81 and 133 new cases respectively.
Total number of recovered patients reached 145,311 or 59.4% of all reported cases, leaving some 90,554 active cases, a level we previously had on June 15th, 2020.
Number of critical admissions also reduced by some margin and reached 2,193. (On oxygen: 1,758 — on ventilator: 435).
For the first time in two months, hospitalizations in Punjab (1,685) were today lower than those in Sindh (2,153). Number of patients on ventilator in Punjab has reduced to 180, down from over 300 during June.
Ventilator utilization is now 31% of overall ventilators that are allocated for COVID-19 patients across the country, down from 45% utilization that we had during mid-June.
