China has opened a state-of-the-art visa application center in Lahore. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Yao Jing, inaugurated the visa facility in the provincial hub on Monday.

The inaugural ceremony was also attended by the Lahore Consul General Long Dingbin, Deputy Consul General Peng Zhengwu, and officials from the Punjab government.

Deputy Consul General, Zhengwu, lauded the initiative. He said:

Earlier residents of Lahore had to travel to Islamabad to apply for a visa to China. This new place will provide enormous relief to businessmen and visitors. Lahore is an important city and the new hub of economic activity in Punjab.

The visa application center will cater to passengers willing to travel to China, the administrative region of Hong Kong and Macau. However, the office will only collect the required documents and send them to the Chinese embassy in Islamabad, which will make the final call.

Zhengwu explained that the Chinese embassy has outsourced the Lahore visa center to a private company and will operate through them.

This will ease off the burden on Islamabad embassy, which reportedly processes 4,000 applications every month.
