Following debate and criticism on Mohammad Amir’s early retirement from Test Cricket, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finally broken its silence. PCB’s Managing Director, Wasim Khan has said that Mohammad Amir had planned to retire two years ago.

The Head Coach, Mickey Arthur talked the left-arm pacer out of his decision to quit the longest format of the game to prolong his career.

Amir decided to quit Test cricket two years ago and discussed it with Mickey Arthur who had few sessions with him on this issue and eventually made him understand that it is not the right decision at this stage and Amir finally changed his mind.

Wasim Khan further added that only the players can decide their future and that PCB cannot force anyone.

We are disappointed with his decision but we have to respect it as we cannot force him or any player to change his mind at a time when he is mentally not up for it.

The PCB official told the media at Gaddafi Stadium that the players know about their body strength more than anyone and that Amir has made his decision after thinking it through.

Amir knows about his body strength and future prospects in the game and I think this time he has made his mind after a thorough thought process to serve in only ODI and T20I games with a renewed zeal and determination.

The 27-year-old Amir will only be available for limited over formats from now on after his decision to bid farewell to red-ball cricket.
