To protect vegetation and forests in Pakistan, the government has announced that July 20 will be celebrated as the national “Plant for Pakistan” day.

Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam made this announcement on Wednesday while chairing the 4th meeting of the Federal Forestry Board.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the initiative by planting a sapling.

The advisor to PM said that the ’10 Billion Tree Tsunami’ is a national project, and all the provinces equally are involved. Malik Amin Aslam advised that the provinces should revise their targets and devise new plans to achieve them before 14th August.

The provinces have been advised to submit their PC-1’s and progress on the ground by next week.

Federal Minister for Climate Change, Zartaj Gul said that other provinces should take inspiration from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and play their part in PM Imran Khan’s forestation efforts.

She was disappointed that some of the provinces had failed to achieve their current year’s plantation targets.

Secretary Climate Change Hasan Nasir Jamy, Inspector General Forests Salman Warraich, the secretaries of the forest departments of all four provinces including AJK and GB, representatives of NHA, Railways, Pakistan Army, NGOs as well as international organizations attended the meeting.
