The US Embassy in Pakistan has revealed that there are no plans for direct flights between Pakistan and the US.

The embassy issued this statement after  Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials visited Islamabad Airport. TSA deals with the overseas airport and air carrier security.

In its statement, the embassy said that officials have viewed Pakistan’s aviation security infrastructure and met with their Pakistani counterparts during their visit.

Representatives from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) and the Ministry of Aviation accompanied the TSA officials on the visit and highlighted the airport’s security features.

The US embassy stated that the visit was not a formal inspection, assessment, or audit of any specific airport. The TSA Regional Director Jason Schwabel said,

Secure international air travel is essential to facilitate trade and connections. We look forward to deepening our relationship with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority as we explore additional areas of cooperation.

The trip was a part of the US Mission’s efforts to strengthen economic relations between the US and Pakistan.

Earlier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) had announced earlier that direct flights to New York will start soon. The national flag carrier had invited the TSA team to inspect Islamabad Airport in terms of security. The team was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on July 17 and 18.
