Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood, has announced that the O-Level and IGCSE examinations in Pakistan will start from May 10 instead of May 15.

Mahmood announced this in a Twitter post on Monday, saying that the decision was made at the request of the Cambridge International Examination (CIE).

The Federal Minister said he had received a letter from Christine Ozden, CEO Cambridge, requesting the government to revise the schedule for O-Level and IGCSE exams. He also shared a copy of the letter.

After consultation with provinces/stakeholders, we have agreed. Now O-Level/IGCSE will start from May 10.

Ozden also lauded the government’s efforts to enable students in Pakistan ‘to make progress with their education.’

The CEO of Cambridge Assessment International Education said in the letter that they had deliberated the date of May 15 given by the Federal Government and requested for an early start so that more students could progress.

She noted that the change of date would provide an equivalence in the education system that will be fairer as the students will have a “better chance to demonstrate what they have learned.”
