Chinese phone maker OnePlus and search engine giant Google have teamed up to improve Wear OS, announced OnePlus CEO Pete Lau during a recent interview.

According to a report from 9to5Google, the two companies have partnered up to improve the system of Wear OS and how it communicates with Android phones and TVs. This improvement in communication between the platforms will also improve overall interoperability.

It is unclear how the companies plan to achieve this since that is all the executive has revealed at the moment. During the interview he said:

Wear OS definitely has room to improve. What we’re trying to do is work with Google to try to improve the connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV, and Android smartphones to create this ability for better device interoperability across the ecosystems. This has been something looked at very positively from Google’s side as well, so this is the direction that we’re trying to develop, but we don’t have more than we can share on that right now.

Keep in mind that this does not imply that OnePlus smartwatches will come with Wear OS in the future as it was believed before the interview. The executive has made it clear that this is not yet confirmed, but he has not denied it either so we are not ruling out the possibility.

We might also see other improvements to Wear OS in the future which will likely be revealed next year.
