The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to retain Babar Azam as the national team’s captain till World T20 next year.

Babar, who replaced Sarfraz Ahmed as T20I captain last year, was also given the charge of the ODI side later on. His first assignment as an ODI skipper will be against Zimbabwe.

Babar was made captain of the national T20I side for one year, and his future was to be decided following the team’s performance in the World T20 scheduled for November.

However, with the tournament delayed till next year, the board has decided to extend Babar’s tenure as a limited-overs skipper until next year to give him confidence, said sources familiar with the development.

Head coach, Misbah-ul-Haq, who resigned as chief selector today to focus on his coaching role, also confirmed the development. Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he said that the board has decided to retain Babar as captain till the T20 World Cup.
