Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finalized its tentative schedule for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, due later this year.

Pakistan is slated to host Sri Lanka for two Test matches in December this year as part of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Championship. The series was earlier scheduled for September-October in Pakistan, however, the two boards have agreed to reschedule it for December.

PCB has informed the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) about the new dates. The board is keen to arrange the first Test match in Rawalpindi and the second one in Karachi.

As per the given dates, the first Test can be played from 9th or 10th December, followed by the second Test from 17th to 18th December. The board has asked for input from the Lankan board, and a final schedule will be announced after consultation.

The board representatives also briefed the Sri Lankan authorities on the security arrangements in both cities. PCB is looking forward to hosting the Test series in Pakistan, especially in the aftermath of a recently-concluded white ball series against Sri Lanka.

In a previous statement, the SLC President, Shammi Silva, had said:

The safety and security of its players is the responsibility of the SLC, which it takes very seriously. If there had been any doubts, the SLC would not have gone ahead with this arrangement [limited-overs series].

He says that a successful tour of Pakistan for a limited-over series will boost the players’ confidence and will also be critical when the discussions for Test series start.
