In the second phase of the disbursement of cash among affectees of the coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the Ehsaas Emergency Cash program for those who lost their jobs due to the ongoing crisis.

Under the program, each unemployed individual will receive immediate cash support of Rs. 12,000 from Prime Minister Imran Khan’s COVID-19 Relief Fund.

On Monday, PM Khan visited an Ehsaas cash distribution center set up at the Pakistan Sports Complex where he met with people who received emergency cash assistance through the system.

Khan inquired various individuals about the financial impacts in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. A number of affectees apprised him about their issues and expressed gratitude for the financial support.

He emphasized that the government is aware of their woes and has therefore gradually lifted the lockdown to resume economic activities across the country despite severe criticism.

He was accompanied by the Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar, PM’s Special Assistant on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Sania Nishtar, and other senior officials. Dr. Sania Nishtar briefed the prime minister about the whole process.

She said that the first batch of beneficiaries faced financial strain due to prolonged COVID-19 lockdown, the government is there to support the vulnerable segments of society. She also urged people to adopt precautionary measures.

It is worth mentioning here that under the first phase Ehsaas Cash program, cash assistance was disbursed from the allocated Rs. 100 billion in the stimulus package. However, donations for the second phase are coming from the PM Corona Fund.

As of Monday, as many as 3.4 million applications had been received via Ehsaas Labour Portal since the prime minister launched it on May 2.

The COVID Relief Fund has mobilized more than three million rupees so far. And as per the premier’s commitment, for each rupee donated by the public, four rupees would be committed by the government. For transparency, details about the disbursement and withdrawal will be made public.
