Pakistani passport has been listed among the bottom ten in the latest rankings for the world’s most powerful passports.

Passport Index, which ranked the 193 United Nations (UN) member countries based on their mobility rate, placed Pakistan at the 70th position, with a score of 38.

It means that Pakistani passport holders can travel to 38 countries without a prior visa requirement. In addition, Pakistanis have visa-free access to eight countries, while they need visa-on-arrival for 30 countries.

According to the latest ranking, New Zealand, the first country to overcome Covid-19, now has the world’s most powerful passport with a score of 129. Kiwi passport holders don’t require a visa to enter 86 countries, while 43 countries offer them a visa-on-arrival facility.

Meanwhile, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Ireland, Japan, South Korea, and Australia are second on the list, all with a mobility rate of 128.

Sweden, Belgium, France, Finland, Italy, and Spain are at the third spot, while the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal, Lithuania, Norway, Iceland, and Canada, are in fourth place.

Notably, the United States is missing from the top 10 list. It is mostly due to its travel restrictions following the pandemic outbreak in the country. The USA now ranks at 21st place in the passport rankings.

Afghanistan and Iraq are at the bottom, having a visa-free and visa-on-arrival access to 31 countries only. The Passport Index noted that the Covid-19 pandemic influenced the travel impact and overall ‘World Openness.’

Despite the high volatility of passport power throughout the past year, Passport Index has updated passport rankings in real-time, displaying the true effect of the pandemic on passport rankings.
