Pakistan has acquired a satellite from China that will monitor desert locusts to issue early warnings.
China Meteorological Administration has confirmed the development and released special reports on remote sensing data of locust attacks in the country.
The Fengyun series satellites generate information of locust-affected area by monitoring rainfall, soil moisture, and land surface temperature, the Met department said.

It should be noted that China is already supplying pesticides, spraying equipment, and aerial support to Pakistan to combat the locust infestation.
According to reports, Pakistan might face another massive locust attack in the next few weeks. Chairman National Disaster Management Authority, Lt Gen Mohammad Afzal, briefed the diplomatic corps at the National Locust Control Centre (NLCC) in this regard. He said the locust infestation is likely to peak in the next three to four weeks.
Next eight weeks between July 15 and Sept 15 would be critical because of monsoon and the government’s ongoing commitment with anti-COVID-19 measures.
