In order to digitize its freight service, Pakistan Railways (PR) has launched a ‘Premium Container Train’ which can be booked online.

The newly launched train will run between Lahore and Karachi and will cover the distance in 32 hours.

According to details, there are 30 wagons in the container train. Each wagon can be booked online by open bidding on the PR website.

PR has set the starting bid price for each wagon at Rs. 125,000. If per wagon bidding of all six upcountry and six down country departures close at starting price, PR will earn Rs. 45 million each month.

The premium container train will set off from Karachi on the 1^st, 6^th, 11^th, 16^th, 21^st, and 26^th of each month while it will set off from Lahore on the 3^rd, 8^th, 13^th, 18^th, 23^rd, and 28^th of each month.

On Thursday, the Premium Container Train departed from Karachi for Lahore for the first time.

While speaking at the occasion, Divisional Superintendent PR Karachi, Muhammad Hanif Gul, said that upholding punctuality, ensuring transparency, enhancing revenue generation, and improving service delivery are the four essential objectives that define this newly-launched premium container train.

The Divisional Superintendent added that the punctuality of the premium train will be under strict observation as customers are entitled to a refund in case the train does not reach its destination within the stipulated time.
