Pakistan’s squash team has defeated India 2-1 on the last day of the South Asian Games 2019, taking the country’s gold medal count to 32.
This year’s edition of South Asian Games was organized in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal. From December 1 to 10, seven teams from South Asia participated in the games. Other than Nepal and Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Bhutan also participated in the event.
Pakistan fielded a three-member team in men’s squash event with Farhan Mehboob, Asim Khan, and Tayyab Aslam representing the country.
Tayyab Aslam overpowered India’s Harinder Paal Singh in the first squash match. The final score was 5-11, 11-6, 4-11, 12-10.
On the other hand, Farhan Mehboob defeated Abay Singh 11-8 and 12-10 while Asim Khan suffered a defeat at the hands of Pardan Abhishek.

Pakistan concluded the tournament with 132 medals which included 32 gold, 41 silver, and 59 bronze medals.

The government of Pakistan had sponsored 269 athletes for the South Asian Games 2019.
Nepal, the host country, finished with 206 medals with 51 golds. India bagged 312 medals which included 174 golds. Sri Lanka netted 251 medals, with 40 gold medals and Bangladesh won 138 medals in the tournament.
Since the host country for the South Asian Games is decided in an alphabetic sequence, it is Pakistan’s turn to host the tournament in 2021.
The 14th Edition of the South Asian Games will be organized in Lahore in the year 2021.
