The number of Covid-19 cases in Pakistan have crossed 2,000 with the country recording the biggest single-day jump in the tally for the 2nd consecutive day. New cases came in from all parts of the country with Sindh and Punjab frequently switching places as the provinces hit worst by the virus.

Numerous new cases were detected among Tableeghi Jamaat members across the country. In view of this, IGP Sindh Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar directed police officers in the province to restrict the movement of Tableeghi Jamaat members, declaring their marakiz as temporary quarantines. Raiwind went into complete lockdown too after a mosque was found to be housing affected patients.

At the same time, reports of recoveries kept arriving with Pakistan’s tally of people who recovered from the novel coronavirus crossing 80. As for the death toll, the virus has claimed 26 lives so far in the country with the government coronavirus portal classifying 12 cases as critical.

In the US, the coronavirus fatalities have exceeded China’s with the toll now crossing 4,000. That means the US now has the third-highest death toll after Italy and Spain, and the highest number of coronavirus cases in the world with more than 188,000 patients.

The White House on Tuesday projected 100,000 to 240,000 deaths in the United State from the coronavirus pandemic even if current social distancing guidelines are maintained. Meanwhile, Spain, the United Kingdom, and France each reported their biggest overnight jump in deaths since the start of the pandemic.
