At the ongoing Consumer Electronic Show 2021, the Korean smartphone maker Samsung has announced its latest Chromebook that is the first of its kind to come with a QLED display. Surprisingly, the device feels like more of a degrade as compared to its predecessor. In its attempt to reduce the costs, the company has let go of some of the most powerful features of the original Galaxy Chromebook.

Design and Display

The Galaxy Chromebook 2 features a 2-in-1 design with a 13.3-inch touchscreen featuring 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, HDR support, and narrow bezels. The laptop also comes with support for the USI Pen (a cross-compatible pen part of the Universal Stylus Initiative) that can detect 4096 levels of pressure. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the power button.

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 will be available in Fiesta Red and Mercury Gray.

Internals and Storage

Since the laptop, as compared to its predecessor, comes at half a price, it features toned down internals. It is powered by an Intel Celeron 5205U processor that is a 15W CPU and features 2 cores, 2 threads, with Intel UHD Graphics. Users can also opt for a 10th gen Intel Core i3 10110U CPU which is still a dual-core CPU but with 4 threads and higher clocks.

The laptop can be configured with 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage. it also comes with an SD card slot.

The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is equipped with two 5W speakers backed by the Smart AMP feature, which, according to Samsung, is 178% louder than an average amplifier. Other features include a 720p webcam, backlit keyboard with wider keys, Wi-Fi 6 (ax 2×2), and Bluetooth 5.0.

In terms of battery, the laptop comes with a 45.5 Wh cell promising 14 hours of usage.

Pricing and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook will come at a starting price tag of $550. However, the launch date has not been revealed yet.
