The captain of Pakistan cricket team, Sarfaraz Ahmed has urged the International Cricket Council’s governing board to play its part in reviving international cricket in Pakistan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently agreed on a deal with the Sri Lankan board to play limited-overs series in Pakistan. However, a number of senior Sri Lanka cricketers have decided against touring Pakistan. Sri Lanka Cricket has also requested the government to reassess the security situation in Pakistan after alleged terrorist threats.
In addition to this, a few key players have asked for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their board to play the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) instead.
This has prompted Sarfaraz to voice his opinion regarding the revival of cricket in the country. While addressing a press conference on Friday, he said:
I don’t know the reasons as to why Sri Lankan cricketers are not willing to tour Pakistan for the limited-overs series. Pakistan has supported the cricketing boards of many countries. We want them to support us in our time of need.
Speaking on the security situation in Pakistan, the cricketer hailed the efforts of the government, armed forces, and state institutions in restoring peace in the country.
