In a first, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has initiated a digital health verification process that is based on the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Travel Pass framework.

The move is intended to offer customers the ability to securely store and present information related to COVID-19 tests, as well as their vaccination status in the future.

According to details, the service is initially available to customers traveling on SIA’s flights from Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur to Singapore while the extension of the service depends on its success on these two routes.

After undergoing Coronavirus testing, passengers traveling on these SIA routes would be given either digital or paper health certificates with a QR code bearing the test results and other essential details.

Before boarding the plane, airport check-in staff would be able to verify the authenticity of these certificates via a secure mobile application to ensure that the customers meet Singapore’s entry requirements.

In an official statement, CEO SIA, Goh Choon Phong, said this is a faster and more secure mode to validate a passenger’s health credentials than the existing protocols, speeding up both the airport check-in process and the immigration entry process into Singapore.

He added that the use of digital technologies would make it easier for SIA customers to control their information and enjoy a seamless experience amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
