Punjab’s SES Teachers Association (SESTA) has proposed that parents who fail to enroll their children that are over the age of 5 in schools must be given prison sentences of up to six months.
The association has requested the government to monitor the children in every family, while urging government officials to enroll their children at schools, and recommending salary cuts for violations.

A spokesperson for SESTA said in a statement that it has rejected Punjab’s enrollment policy that directs the teachers at public schools to sign children up at schools, and demands for elected representatives to be given the responsibility.
The statement included a request for the local government to ensure maximum enrollments at the government schools.

Last week, the Government of Punjab announced that 1.2 million children would be enrolled at public schools across the province. As per reports, the District Education Officers (DEOs) in the 36 districts of the province have been directed to prepare for the upcoming enrollment scheme.
