The holy month of Ramzan is here as many Muslims around the world are observing the second day of fasting today. Muslims across the globe begin fasting at before the Fajr call and break their fasts when the sun sets. This means that the fasting duration varies for different regions of the world. Some have to fast during the sweltering heat for long hours while the others go through their day in not-so-hot weather.

People living in Northern Hemisphere will see longer summer days as compared to the ones living in the Southern Hemisphere where there are shorter winter days these days.

Let’s take a look at the duration of fasts for Muslims in different countries around the world;

Longest Fasting Time

Muslims in Iceland will observe the fasts for the longest hours as compared to the rest of the world. The fast duration in Iceland will be 21 hours and 51 minutes.

Norway will see a fasting duration of 20 hours and 20 minutes. Then comes Russia where Muslims will fast for 19 hours and 33 minutes. Some other countries will follow the following timings;

Denmark: 19 hours and 32 minutes.

Netherlands: 19 hours and 4 seconds.

Italy: 17 hours and 29 minutes.

Canada: 17 hours and 21 minutes.

Spain: 17 hours and 13 minutes.

The Middle East and South Asia

Pakistanis will also observe fasts for considerable hours as well, however, not as long as Iceland or Russia. Here, the duration of fasting will be 16 hours and 1 minute. The neighbors, Afghanistan, will keep the fasts for 16 hours and 24 minutes. The other countries in the region will follow these trends;

India: 15 hours and 38 minutes.

UAE: 15 hours and 15 minutes.

Iraq: 16 hours and 14 minutes

Saudi Arabia: 15 hours and 8 seconds.

Shortest Time

Muslims in Argentina and New Zealand will have the shortest fasting duration. The Argentines will have a fasting duration of just 11 hours and 8 seconds followed by New Zealanders’ duration of 11 hours and 21 minutes.

The Australians are enjoying a winter season at the moment and will have easy days as their duration will be 11 hours and 46 minutes only.
