Despite announcing the ongoing semester to remain online, the University of Management and Technology (UMT) is charging the full fee along with additional charges of Rs. 2,999 on the pretext of health insurance.

To make matters worse, UMT has also decided to impose a fine of Rs. 100 per day on students who fail to submit the health insurance fee within the due date, which will be increased up to Rs. 200 per day 15 days after the deadline date.
A senior official within the UMT, on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that students will not be granted any healthcare facilities in return for hefty insurance fees, adding that the institute has taken this step in order to shore up funds to pay the salaries of teachers and staff members.

On the other hand, students have said that the health insurance fee mandated by the UMT is tantamount to extortion.
One UMT student, who asked not to be named, implored the UMT administration to reconsider its decision as the student is the sole breadwinner of the family and is jobless for the past few months due to the Coronavirus pandemic as have been most of the students of the institute.
