World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) Coronavirus vaccine for use in countries grappling with highly infectious and deadly variants of SARS-COV-2, the Coronavirus which causes COVID-19 disease.

WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization met earlier this week and recommended the single-shot J&J COVID-19 vaccine that can be stored at regular refrigeration rather than ultra-cold temperatures.

According to a statement issued by the Chairman SAGE, Alejandro Cravioto, J&J’s Coronavirus vaccine has demonstrated the necessary safety and efficacy levels to be recommended by the WHO for use in people over the age of 18.

The statement added that the single-dose J&J’s COVID-19 vaccine is 66.9% effective against symptomatic infection, 76.7% effective after 14 days, and 85.4% effective after 28 days.
