Two months ago, Samsung made a breakthrough in mobile photography with its 64 MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor with 5x optical zoom. Just before Samsung announced the high-resolution sensor, Credit Suisse, an investment banking company, published a report predicting that 65 MP sensors (but we got a 64 MP sensor) for mobile cameras will become a reality in the second half of 2019 and a 108 MP sensor will become a reality in 2020.
Another tipster @iceuniverse who usually provides reliable and true information from insiders tweeted that next year we will see smartphones with 108 MP sensors. The image he attached with the tweets seems like a 3D render of the Galaxy Note 10 though. The tweet gives no other information regarding the technology and doesn’t mention the manufacturer working on this beast of a camera.
By the way, next year you will see on your smartphone: a 10x optical zoom camera and a 108MP camera. pic.twitter.com/885cwXHPQe

Our best guess is that Samsung is working on a 108 MP sensor considering its experience in making smartphone cameras. Moreover, the 64 MP ISOCELL GW1 sensor was first introduced by Samsung too, Sony still has to release a 64 MP sensor of its own.
None of the manufacturers have talked about working on 100 MP camera sensors for smartphones, hence, we cannot say anything for sure.
