Redmi’s Note 8 Series is finally out, and the Note 8 Pro is officially the first smartphone with a 64 MP camera. Succeeding the successful Redmi Note 7 series, the Note 8 duo features top of the line camera specifications and powerful processors.
The smartphones were constantly hyped up by Redmi, let’s see what these smartphones have in store for us.
Among the two, this one is a toned downed variant with a more affordable price.
Redmi Note 8 features a trendy smartphone design with rounded corners, vertically aligned quad-rear cameras beside the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The black color comes in a matte finish while the white and blue colors feature a unique gradient.
As far as the display is concerned, the Redmi Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch LCD panel with FHD+ (1080p) resolution and Gorilla Glass 5 for scratch resistance.
Internally, the smartphone is driven by Qualcomm’s 11 nm Snapdragon 665 chipset paired with 4 GB or 6 GB RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB built-in storage. The storage is expandable via a dedicated memory card slot. Redmi Note 8 comes in the following variants:
On the software front, the smartphone runs MIUI 10 on top of Android 9.0 Pie.
As mentioned, the Redmi Note 8 features a quadruple sensor rear camera. The primary sensor is a 48 MP a Samsung ISOCELL GM2 sensor. The main sensor is followed by an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 2 MP dedicated macro lens and 2 MP depth sensor.
The selfie camera, on the other hand, is a little disappointing, Redmi has gone with a 13 MP single sensor for selfies.
The whole package is fueled by a 4000 mAh battery, which is a standard in the Note series. It supports 18W fast charging over a USB Type-C port. The pricings for the respective variants are:
This smartphone is officially the first smartphone with a 64 MP camera and has been making headlines for a while now. Even though its impressive camera is the key selling feature here, its hardware specifications are nothing to glance over either.
Design-wise, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is considerably different compared to its younger sibling. The quad-sensor setup on the rear is vertically aligned in the center, with three sensors in a line and the fourth sensor on the side with an LED flashlight.
The rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is housed beneath the camera sensors. The cameras and the fingerprint sensor on the back are vertically aligned and complement the symmetrical design. The smartphone is available in three colors Black, Green, and White, all with a glossy finish.
The display is a 6.53-inch LCD panel with FHD+ (1080p) resolution and extremely thin bezels. Since Redmi opted for LCDs rather than OLED displays, both the smartphones feature rear-mounted fingerprint sensors. Not that under-screen fingerprint sensors are expected at this price point.
At the helm, the smartphone features a Mediatek’s Helio G90T, which is another first, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is the first phone to feature this SoC platform. The processor is topped with 6 GB or 8 GB RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB built-in storage. Redmi Note 8 Pro provides the following memory options:
The software specifications are similar to Redmi Note 8 i.e. it runs on Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10.
Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a liquid cooling chamber to deal with the expected heating issues that might arise due to the gaming chipset.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro features Samsung’s 64 MP ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor with quad-binning pixel technology as its primary sensor, followed by an 8 MP ultra-wide sensor, 2 MP depth sensor, and 2 MP macro lens.
The selfie camera is a modest 20 MP single sensor with scene recognition and AI features.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro is packing a 4500 mAh battery, which is a nice surprise considering how most phones in this series have never gone above 4000 mAh. The phone supports 18W fast charging and it will be available for sale in September with the following pricing:
