Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has announced in a press conference that Islamabad will become Pakistan’s first city to have an all-electric public transport. In the same session, the minister announced that the federal government will import 120 electric buses before the end of 2020 and that the local manufacturing of the electric buses shall begin by 2021.

In his tweet that about a week ago, the minister mentioned that Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service has formed an alliance with Skywell Automobile, a Chinese automaker, to introduce electric buses in Pakistan. He further stated after the signing ceremony between the two entities, the electric buses will start running on Pakistani roads this year.
Furthermore, just over a day ago, in a session with the local media, Fawad Chaudhry revealed that Skywell Automobile will be investing $50 million to launch electric buses in Pakistan. The investment is a part of the first phase of development, as per the reports, and the next phase shall see the beginning of local manufacturing of electric buses in Pakistan.

He said in the last session that a value chain for electric transport will be established in Pakistan, adding that the battery bus service will be made operational before the end of 2020.
