Boeing has announced that it will start delivering commercial jets capable of flying on 100% biofuel by 2030.

The US-based aerospace company’s announcement is in line with the aviation industry’s plans to slash carbon emissions in half by 2050.

According to the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), commercial airlines are responsible for 2% of global carbon emissions and 12% of transport emissions.

In an official statement, Boeing’s Director of Sustainability Strategy, Sean Newsum, has said that mitigating the environmental damage from fossil fuels is the biggest challenge of our lifetime.

It’s a tremendous challenge, it’s the challenge of our lifetime. Aviation industry remains committed to doing its part to reduce its carbon footprint.

Boeing’s goal requires the company to implement significant advances in jet systems, raise fuel-blending requirements, and receive safety certification by global regulators by the end of the decade, the official added.

Note that back in 2018, Boeing had also staged the world’s first commercial airplane flight using 100% biofuel on a FedEx Corp 777 freighter.
