The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani as the head of its most powerful committee known as Finance & Commercial Affairs (F&CA).

According to the latest developments, Ehsan Mani will now be in charge of designing budgets for the ICC events and distributing money to its member countries.

Ehsan Mani’s appointment will put an end to the power-plays of big-three boards, which included Indian, Australian and English boards.

Other members of this committee include:

  • Indra Nooyi (independent director)
  • Amitabh Choudhury (BCCI acting secretary)
  • Chris Nenzani (CSA president)
  • Imran Khawaja (ICC vice-chairman)
  • Earl Eddings (CA chairman)
  • Colin Graves (ECB chairman)

Current ICC chairman Shashank Manohar and its CEO Manu Sawhney will also be a part of the F&CA as ex-officio members.

Ehsan Mani — Experienced Candidate

The appointment of Ehsan Mani might come as a shock to some since Pakistan is largely neglected on the international stage. However, Ehsan Mani has previously also served as the F&CA chairman from 1996 and 2002.

Mani was also responsible for landing ICC’s first-ever broadcast rights deal which was worth $550 million. Soon after that, Ehsan Mani became the president of the ICC until 2006 and played an instrumental role in securing a $1.1 billion media rights deal with ESPN Star Sports in 2015.

It is worth mentioning that Shashank Manohar recommended Ehsan Mani’s name as a replacement during last week’s annual conference in London.

The committee holds significant power as it is responsible for making major decisions, which is a major boost for Ehsan Mani and PCB in a broader sense.
