The latest version of Google Chrome is rolling out across all platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

Announced last month, Chrome 78 is no small update, but almost a complete overhaul. The update introduces new customization options for New Tab pages, a handy click to call feature, forced dark mode, and much more.

What’s New?

Chrome 78 will let users customize New Tab pages far more than just adding a theme from the Chrome Web Store. Users will be able to pick their own images from their galleries and put any theme on top of it. There will be a new “Shortcut” icon to let users choose how their shortcuts look. Users will be able to pick between suggested shortcuts, curated shortcuts, or no shortcuts at all.

The “Color and Theme” option has 23 preset themes and a color picker to let the browser create a theme itself.

“Click to call” sends any number you highlight to your phone via a notification. This number can then be called with a single tap.

Google’s Password Checkup extension will be integrated into Chrome 78. This will let users know if their credentials are unsafe on a website and will prompt them to change their passwords if necessary.

Forced Dark Mode, as the name suggests, will force dark mode on all websites regardless of whether they support dark mode or not. This will not interfere with the websites’ source codes, but will only use color inversion to enable Chrome themed dark colors on all websites.

There are a handful of technical updates for DevTools too. You can check them out in the video down below.
