In an effort to put an end to the controversy surrounding moon sighting, the federal government has passed a bill that recommends fines and imprisonment for people involved in private moon-sighting.
According to local media reports, the bill proposes a fine of Rs. 500,000 and imprisonment for people creating moon-sighting panels parallel to the government-backed Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The move is aimed at uniformly implementing the decisions of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee across Pakistan.

A local media outlet reported that the federal government has green-lighted all three bills presented by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.
As per the report, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee 2020, Muslim Family Law 2020, and Publication of Holy Quran Amendment Bill were sanctioned during the federal cabinet’s meeting on Tuesday.
