As per the official notification, the government of Pakistan has officially approved a 30-day reduction in the sentences of prisoners before Eid-ul-Fitr.

The decision was made at a meeting of the federal cabinet, which was chaired by PM Imran Khan. Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed was also present at the meeting. Upon review of the underlined decision, he told the meeting participants that the sentences of those guilty of heinous crimes will not be shortened in any case.

Additionally, the cabinet meeting also approved the deployment of armed forces across the country to help civic authorities curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Further, the country-wide lockdown is a potential possibility if the rate of infections doesn’t go down. Currently, the coronavirus has claimed more than 18,000 lives, while the number of reported cases stands above 840,000.
