The LG G8X ThinQ is LG’s revised take on the Dual screen Snap-On case. Reportedly, the company has been working on this piece of hardware for a while now. The case was launched with the G8 earlier this year but has been tweaked and launched with the G8X ThinQ smartphone.
The phone, apart from the dual-screen Snap-On case, is a typical 2019 Android Flagship. However, it has ditched the motion control gimmicks that came with G8.
Design-wise, the G8X follows the same minimalistic approach we saw in the G8 earlier this year. It has a dual-sensor rear camera horizontally aligned in the center and Gorilla Glass 6 protection on both, front and back.
The G8X comes with a 6.4-inch OLED capacitive screen featuring 1080p resolution and an under-display optical fingerprint sensor.
The secondary removable screen connects to the device via USB-C connector and has the same size as the primary display i.e. 6.4-inch with FHD+ resolution. On the outside, it also features a small 2.1-inch monochrome OLED display for date, time and notifications.
As for the innards, the smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset joined by 6 GB RAM and 128 GB built-in storage. LG has kept the SD card slot around, since 128 GB may not be enough for everyone. It runs on Android 9.0 Pie topped with LG UX 9.0, a new in-house Android overlay.
At the back, the smartphone has a dual-sensor camera with a 12 MP main sensor joined by a 13 MP ultra-wide sensor with a massive 136 degrees viewing angle. LG has, however, ditched the telephoto lens.
On the front, the LG G8X ThinQ features an impressive 32 MP Quad Bayer sensor.
The smartphone is powered by a 4000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 that supports 21W charging.
Specifics of availability and pricing have not been made public yet.
