The world’s highest peak Mount Everest has grown 0.86m to a newly-measured 29,032 ft. (8,848.86m), China and Nepal jointly announced on Tuesday.

Until now, both countries discussed whether to include the snow cap on the top in the measurement. Chinese authorities previously said Mount Everest should be measured to its rock height, while Nepalese authorities argued that the snow on top of the summit should be included.

Officials representing Nepal’s foreign ministry and a team of surveyors reportedly coordinated to agree on the new height.

Previous calibration records of Mount Everest measured the mountain at 8,848 meters, according to the measurement done in 1954. The People’s Daily newspaper in China tweeted the new finding and shared the news that President Xi Jinping and Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari exchanged congratulatory messages on Tuesday.
