Before the team’s departure to England, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Director of Medical and Sports Sciences, Dr. Sohail Saleem, has said that the tour is a big risk.
The team departs for England on 28th June via a specially chartered flight and ten cricketers including Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Wahab Riaz and Shadab Khan have all tested positive for COVID-19.
Talking about the upcoming tour, Dr. Sohail said:
During the pandemic, it’s a big risk. We haven’t experienced (playing during a pandemic), but for both teams, it will be a first. The pandemic means risk, but consider them (players) as providing people entertainment.
Despite the fact that international sporting events are taking place behind closed doors, these can provide fans with much-needed entertainment and morale boost.
There’s no crowd in football and there will be no spectators at cricket stadiums, too. The anxiety level of people sitting at home is rising, but cricket can be seen as lowering these.

Dr. Sohail said that players will undergo regular testing after every 5-7 days on the tour. The team will stay in quarantine for 14 days after landing in the United Kingdom before resuming training in a close bubble.
None of the players will interact with any outsider and the families are also not allowed to travel with the players. If any player tests positive on the tour, he will be quarantined immediately.
The training session in Pakistan was also canceled on Dr. Sohail’s recommendation because it was hard to achieve a bio-secure environment due to a surge in coronavirus cases.
