A technical experts committee of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) is in talks with 8 vaccine manufacturers for the procurement of Coronavirus vaccine in bulk.
According to Dr. Asad Hafeez, VC at Health Services Academy Islamabad, the Coronavirus vaccine is unlikely to be widely available in Pakistan during the H1 of 2021 due to its limited stock as wealthier nations had already purchased more than half of the worldwide stock.

It would be a significant achievement of the technical experts’ committee should it manage to ensure the availability of Coronavirus vaccine for 1 million frontline healthcare workers and people above 60 years of age, Dr. Asad added.
He said that mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna Inc. are unsuitable for Pakistan due to their requirement to be stored at extremely low temperatures as the country’s vaccine and cold chain storage facilities support storing vaccines between 2°C and 8°C.
