Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab has decided to reduce the syllabus of intermediate for the academic year 2021.

HED has taken this decision keeping in view the fact that intermediate classes have resumed after nearly a delay of 3 months due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the ongoing academic year will span over just 6 months (September to February).

In this regard, a high-level committee headed by the MD Punjab Textbook Board (PTB) has been notified which will furnish the revised intermediate syllabus before the HED Punjab.

According to sources, the revised syllabus is expected to include only pertinent topics of all subjects.

Previously, the Punjab government had directed (PTB) to reduce the syllabus of all classes up to matric for the 2021 academic year.

As a result, PTB had truncated the syllabus of all subjects by 50%.

In a separate development, both the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood, and Education Minister Punjab, Murad Raas, have recently denied the reports which claimed that educational institutions will be shut down from 15 October after a rise in Coronavirus cases among students and teachers.

Mahmood, while ruling out the possibility of shutting down educational institutes, revealed that only 1284 students and teachers out of 171,400 have tested positive for COVID-19 since the resumption of the academic process on 15 September.
