The iconic Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) will tour Pakistan in February next year. Sri Lankan legend and President of the MCC, Kumar Sangakkara will lead the team in the matches which are scheduled at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
MCC was founded in 1787 and since 1814, it is based at the Home of Cricket, Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. MCC’s significance can be understood from the fact that it is the sole custodian of the cricketing laws since its inception. To this day, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the global governing body for cricket, relies on MCC to draft the laws of cricket.
Kumar Sangakkara was elected as the President of the prestigious club in May this year. With that, Sangakkara made history by becoming the first-ever non-British to lead the MCC.
