According to a recent report by Strategy Analytics, the South Korean smartphone maker Samsung has managed to beat Apple and reclaim the top position in global smartphone sales in the month of February. In Q4 2020, Apple dominated the market due to massive iPhone 12 sales.
However, in the past month, Samsung saw a surge in sales which helped it reclaim its position. Reportedly, the company managed to ship 24 million units of its smartphones in February 2021 claiming 23.1 percent of the market share. Meanwhile, Apple managed to sell 23 million units, making for a 22.2 percent market share.
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi claimed the third position with a market share of 11.5 percent, followed by Vivo and OPPO with 10.6 percent and 8.5 percent market share. Note that these smartphone brands have an almost none-to-limited presence in the United States.
In January, Samsung had a market share of 15.6 percent while Apple stood at 25.4 percent. As compared to last year, Samsung saw a 26 percent increase in shipments. The company’s sales were most likely pushed by the launch of the Galaxy S21 series in January. Another important factor is the decrease in Huawei’s share. The Chinese company always gave Samsung a tough time before the US sanctions were imposed.
