South Korea has announced strict visa and entry restrictions on travelers coming from Pakistan and Bangladesh. The ban will come into effect on 23 June.
The move comes in the wake of a new wave of Coronavirus cases in South Korea. The country’s leadership believes the new wave has started due to imported cases from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In a press briefing, Health Minister Park Neung-hoo said:
The new cases are imported cases from the countries that have recently experienced widespread infections. A rise in imported cases places a burden on our quarantine and treatment capabilities.
Under the new restrictions, South Korea will stop visa issuance to Pakistanis and Bengalis except for diplomatic and urgent business purposes.
Moreover, the East Asian nation has also decided to temporarily halt non-scheduled flights from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Non-professional employment (E-9) visa holders from both South Asian countries must also prove before arrival that they have a place to stay for a mandatory two-week self-quarantine in South Korea. Failure to do so would automatically make them ineligible to enter South Korea under the newly imposed restrictions.
Until today, Pakistan has reported 181,000 while Bangladesh has reported 115,700 Coronavirus cases. Pakistan’s COVID-19 death toll stands at 3,590 while Bangladesh’s tally today crossed the 1,500 mark.
Meanwhile, South Korea has reported just 17 new Coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 12,438. So far, 280 people have died in South Korea from the outbreak.
