Toyota has launched the Yaris Cross in Thailand in a bid to tap into the crossover SUV trend. Interestingly, this particular model had been available in the European market since 2018. Currently in Thailand, it has three variants Entry, Mid and High.
It would be safe to say that the Cross is basically a Yaris that had a growth spurt and is on stilts. It has front and rear faux skid plates and hefty fenders all around to give it an off-road feel but don’t be fooled, it is still an on-road car.
However, it has higher ground clearance, as compared to the normal Yaris, by over an inch due to new springs and dampers on it. Completing the look are glossy-black 15-inch alloy rims, blacked-out roof, and side mirrors along with door handles done in chrome, and a smart entry system.
It is fitted with front and rear cameras that have recording functions; it boasts projector headlamps that are automated along with daytime running lights and LED fog lamps incorporated into the bumper.
Both the Yaris Cross and the normal Yaris have similar interiors along with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and 7 airbags. The steering wheel has multiple controls integrated into it along with a 4.2-inch TFT driving information display.
The seating at the back can be folded down to a 60:40 ratio and are adjustable. There is a clamping protection mechanism at the driver-side electric window.
The Yaris Cross is powered by a 1.2-liter 3NR-FXE engine that churns out 109 Nm of torque and 92hp coupled with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). It is pertinent to point out that it is a front-wheel-drive and the engine is in line with the ecocar II rules along with an electrically controlled variable valve system.
The Yaris Cross comes with the following prices in Thailand:
According to rumors, we won’t be seeing the car in Pakistan in the near future despite the fact that it’s more suited to the roads here.
